Meet Kelly Watts, the authorKelly Watts is the author of "Sailing to Jessica." She recently moved to Australia after living in India for two years. She spends her time writing her next book, raising her children and cycling with her husband, Paul. Prior to being a “trailing spouse” to Paul’s career, Kelly was a regional contributor for Meredith Corporation, the publisher of Better Homes & Gardens and Traditional Home magazines. Before her four-year sailing adventure, she wrote a weekly newspaper food column, and freelance food articles, for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the St. Paul Pioneer Press, and the Baltimore Sun newspapers as well as Hometown Cooking magazine. Her food photography routinely appeared in two of the newspapers.
Articles about her sailing adventure have appeared in Blue Water Sailing magazine, Creative Home magazine and Pet Trader magazine (NZ). One of her photographs appeared on the June 2006 cover of Blue Water Sailing magazine. She has a degree in Chemistry from Georgetown University and received her Certificat de Cuisine Base from le Cordon Bleu in Paris. |
...and her fabulous Editors:Nancy J. StohsFor nearly 20 years, Nancy J. Stohs has been Food Editor of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the daily newspaper in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the USA. She has been employed as a newspaper journalist since 1976, when she graduated with honors from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in journalism and history. In addition to food, she has been an editor or writer in the areas of education, health and lifestyle.
She has never gone sailing, but she was thrilled to experience life on the high seas vicariously through Kelly and Paul’s compelling story. She clearly understands the desire for a child; she raised three daughters of her own and is now a happy grandma to a 3-year-old little girl. Like Kelly, she believes that all roads (and oceanic currents) lead to better things, if you just keep your eyes and heart open. Christine Tawtel HendricksChristine is a former IT consultant turned blogger and freelance writer, and generally has an opinion on just about everything. A native Canadian, she, her mining engineer husband, young son, and aging Labrador moved to Europe in 2005 before relocating to Melbourne in 2011. Her blog "Australian Family Hendricks" has been recommended by InterNations as a top Melbourne expat blog.
When not reading, or writing, she is combining her twin passions for writing and child protection by writing philanthropic grant proposals for the Australian child protection charity Child Wise, and is Child Wise's longest-serving Advocate. A big fan of outdoor adventure tales, and happy endings, Christine was awed by Kelly and Paul's leap of faith, and believes that luck is with the person who doesn't include it in their plan. |
