Bilge Pumps
Jabsco Diaphragm pump
The main bilge pump is a Jabsco diaphragm pump located under the gally sole. Since the bilge is 6ft deep and hard to reach the pump just has a hose and filter that goes to the bottom of the bilge and the pump sits 3 ft higher. The main switch for the pump is just under the Amp hour meter on the control panel and its fuse is located just inside the switch panel door as an inline fuse not the one visible on the front. Sitting deep in the bilge is a piece of PVC pipe to which the float switch is attached. The relevant wiring is connected with male female connectors and numbered appropriately to facilitate removal. The through hull utilized by this pump is located behind the back panel of the wet locker and is shared with the shower sump pump whose output hose T's into the bilge output at the exit of the bilge pump.
Rule 3500
When I first bought the boat I was determined to get a backup high capacity bilge pump fitted, the only one I could get to fit past the transmission was the Rule 3500 gph. This pump I attached to the same PVC pipe along with a second float switch at a level 5 inches higher than the main bilge pump such that it would not be activated unless there was a serious hull breech or the number 1 bilge pump failed. For this reason I also installed a high water audible (load) bilge alarm, if I hear this I dive for the floor. Due to the extra weight the PVC pipe was sliding all over the place so during one of my engine removals I fibreglasses a hole receptacle for the base of the PVC pipe to sit in. The PVC pipe is awkward to remove, detach all numbered male female electrical connectors at the top of the pipe and holding the bilge hose and the PVC pipe, wriggle the bilge pump through the gap between the boat and the prop shaft. This pump exits through a large hole above the water line also located behind the back wall of the wet locker.
Cockpit manual bilge pump
The cockpit has a bilge pump located behind a removable cover next to the steering wheel. The pump is the same type as used in the Lavac toilet and shares the same re-build kit for which we have two on board. It has a long hose that sits in the base of the bilge and it exits via a through hull just next to the exhaust opening
Salon Bilge Pump
The salon bilge pump is a very large capacity whale gusher diaphragm pump. It again has a hose with a screen on the end sitting in the bilge and it shares the galley sink through hull located behind the curved portion of the couch. To operate the pump the "T" valve under the couch lid must be opened, this is to stop the sink water from ending up in the bilge.
