Chapter 18: Boat Work and Body Work
...We forgot we were dealing with a B-O-A-T.
Boats always take longer than expected...the boat painter estimated that it would take four to six weeks to paint our boat; it took nine weeks once we pulled the boat out of the water. We figured it would take two weeks to put the hardware back on the boat. After all, we had taken it off, so technically it should be easier to put it back on. Wrong. Five weeks later and we were still putting the boat back together.
The boat wasn’t the only thing we were trying to fix. In the midst of living on an exceedingly dusty boat, supported by metal boat stands, in the middle of a paint shed, we were also undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF). Let me rephrase that: I was undergoing IVF while Paul held my hand – and tried not to squirm.
