Cockpit Details

Rosie has a good small sea going cockpit with large fast draining scuppers, and yet we have often comfortably entertained eight adults for drinks and snacks. The cockpit is the command center of all sailing activity with every control line (excluding topping lift, foresail & spinnaker halyards) routed back to an organized array of clutches, winches and cleats "M". (See section on Sail for more information on running rigging). From the leather bound stainless steering wheel there is a clear 360 degree view around and through the dodger and good sun/rain protection from the bimini which sports a window to view sail trim. The SILVA cockpit instruments "A" are setup to provide everything needed to control the boat, even navigating a multi waypoint route can be accomplished without the need to go below and check the computer or a chart. Having said that the navigation computer and radar which are both situated at the NavStation can be clearly read from behind the wheel (when conditions permit sailing without hatch boards). The AP300 Robertson autopilot "K" control head - Bob - is mounted next to the SILVA instruments and is easy reach from the wheel.
The engine instrument panel "S" is located just by the steering wheel and engine control is via separate throttle/gearshift controls "H" mounted on the binnacle. The binnacle is topped off with a large compass "F".
For entertaining there is a teak cockpit table "J" with 4 integral cup holders and all-round closed cell foam cushions "E" over teak benches. On the really hot days fly/sunscreens can be zipped into the bimini/dodger to diffuse the sun. These were also useful to keep our cat on board when in a marina in foreign ports. The companion way has doors for everyday use and sturdy hatch boards for offshore / heavy weather use.

What are folks saying about Paul and Kelly's adventure?

"Kelly has written a fantastic story and the best part is it's true. Her descriptions make you feel you're right there with them. A great adventure/travel/love story about a couple looking for meaning in their lives, and what they find is a deeper love and a family. It is inspirational, fun, and a great read. I would recommend this to everyone." - Rolanda on Amazon.com
