Pulpit
The pulpit has two sturdy cleats and a sturdy stainless steel guard. It also houses the windlass in its own under-deck locker.
The windlass is a good strong workhorse. It managed to haul up 130ft of chain and the Bruce anchor vertically only tripping the circuit a few times due to overload. I could not imagine having to raise that weight by hand. The chain has a tendency to over run the gypsy when it is letting the chain out fast. For this reason I always have a left shoe on when operating the windlass to stamp it back in the gypsy, (right foot operates the buttons). On the left side of the windlass is a drum type winch for pulling up rode. This can also be used with suitable turning blocks to haul someone up the mast. (However I prefer the control of my 4-way self haul Bosun's chair system) There is a salt water wash down hose next to the windlass for washing mud off the chain and anchor as it is being retrieved.
