SGC 2000 Single-side Band Radio
The SGC2000 has three components:
If you need to remove the main radio first remove the front panel with the control head and slide to the left with other radio wires still attached. You will need to remove GPS holder first. It is a tight fit to slide panel to left with radios hanging out the back but it is doable. Next unscrew the floor the unit is attached to and slide forward. This now allows someone to lie down in the pilot berth and working in the access hole, the wires can be disconnected and radio removed.
Full details of how to use the radio are in detailed manuals in the stbd manual locker in the salon. A few quick notes to get you up and running:
- The control head, visible at the NavStation and in the photograph here. Connected to that are the Mic and a head phones jack 3-inches to its right.
- The main radio itself, this is a separate unit located in the space behind the control head and all the other radios.
- The automatic tuner, located as close to the antenna as possible this is in the Rear Lazarette.

- To set say 11088.1Hz press, PRGM,FREQ1,1,0,8,8,1,PRGM
- To tune, hold the transmit key on the microphone.
- Always turn the unit off at the unit BEFORE flipping the switch on the control panel otherwise the radio does funny things.
- Occasionally - 1 in 20 uses - the volume control jams on full volume. A smart knock to the control head with the unit switched off has always cured the problem!
- To use with weather fax connect the earphone jack 3" to right of control head to the computer line-in or headphone socket. Further information on weather fax in the Computer section.
Here's another comment about Paul and Kelly's adventure:
"Sailing to Jessica is the story of a seemingly average couple whose introspection led them to follow an existentialistic journey filled with personal trials and tribulations, dangers at sea and in the end, absolute joy. With its underlying theme serving as an inspirational road map, the author provides a wonderfully articulated and descriptive account of their courageous voyage that forever enriched their lives." - Barrbqn on Amazon.com
